AWS strongly recommends holding the Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03) before the Professional exam. 2+ years of hands-on AWS architecture experience in production environments is also strongly advised.
Significantly harder. Questions are longer, scenarios more complex, and trade-offs more nuanced. The SAP-C02 is widely considered one of the hardest cloud certifications available, with a pass rate under 30% for unprepared candidates.
75 questions (multiple choice and multiple response) in 180 minutes, passing score of 750 out of 1000. Questions present long multi-constraint scenarios where you must identify the best architectural approach.
Yes. Cost optimisation is a first-class domain — Reserved Instance strategies, Savings Plans, Spot Fleets, Compute Optimizer recommendations, right-sizing, and eliminating waste in large-scale environments all appear on the exam.
Extensively. Control Tower, Service Control Policies, delegated administrator accounts, Config Aggregators, CloudFormation StackSets across OUs, and centralised security tooling patterns are all covered with architectural case studies.
Consistently scoring 80%+ on both included practice exams (75 questions each), being able to explain architectural trade-offs out loud, and having delivered at least one production AWS architecture project are good indicators of readiness.
